Don’t fence me in

Cole Porter’s song,  ‘Don’t fence me in’  sums up my day and current mood perfectly!  My favourite lyrics are given below:

Oh, give me land, lots of land under starry skies above
Don’t fence me in
Let me ride through the wide open country that I love
Don’t fence me in

Let me be by myself in the evenin’ breeze
And listen to the murmur of the cottonwood trees
Send me off forever, but I ask you please
Don’t fence me in…

I want to ride to the ridge where the West commences
And gaze at the moon ’til I lose my senses
I can’t look at hobbles and I can’t stand fences
Don’t fence me in

No, Papa, don’t you fence me in

I like this version of the song the best:

Not having a horse, I rode 5 miles on my bicycle tonight and had a taste of freedom.

Led me ride through the wide open country that I love

The weather has been beautiful so when I caught up with my family, we stopped at a pub and ate our evening meal outdoors.

Find rest O my soul in God alone

As I was writing this post the words, “Find rest O my soul in God alone” came to mind so I googled it and found it comes from Psalm 62 (NIV) which interestingly mentions fences!

Truly my soul finds rest in God; my salvation comes from him.  Truly he is my rock and my salvation; he is my fortress, I will never be shaken. How long will you assault me? Would all of you throw me down— this leaning wall, this tottering fence? Surely they intend to topple me from my lofty place; they take delight in lies. With their mouths they bless, but in their hearts they curse.  Yes, my soul, find rest in God; my hope comes from him.

Truly he is my rock and my salvation;  he is my fortress, I will not be shaken. My salvation and my honor depend on God; he is my mighty rock, my refuge. Trust in him at all times, you people; pour out your hearts to him, for God is our refuge. Surely the lowborn are but a breath, the highborn are but a lie.  If weighed on a balance, they are nothing; together they are only a breath.  Do not trust in extortion or put vain hope in stolen goods; though your riches increase, do not set your heart on them.

One thing God has spoken, two things I have heard: “Power belongs to you, God, and with you, Lord, is unfailing love”; and, “You reward everyone according to what they have done.”

Hope you find a place of freedom and rest
